On 16 May 2026, the World Health Organisation declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern — its second-highest global alert level. As of 25 May 2026, 906 suspected cases and 223 suspected deaths have been reported in DRC, with 7 confirmed cases in Uganda.
